The 12th World Urban Forum (WUF), the largest global conference on urban issues convened by UN-Habitat, will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4-8, 2024, focusing on key actions to address the challenges of sustainable urban development.
Two upcoming sessions at WUF, co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme’s Istanbul Regional Hub, the European Commission, the Slovak Republic’s Ministry of Finance, and the City Institute Lviv, will explore critical solutions for urban sustainability.
The first session The Future of Ukrainian Cities – Transformation Through Radical Collaboration will explore innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to rebuilding and renewing Ukrainian cities amidst ongoing crises. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, including government entities, the private sector, academia, and civil society, the networking session seeks to identify practical actions and integrate diverse stakeholders to create sustainable, scalable outcomes for resilient urban development.

The second session CityScape 2050: GenAI-Powered Urban Futures Workshop aspires to ignite social imagination by exploring speculative future scenarios. Participants will engage in collective thinking and discussions based on a scenario to formulate decisions about the present. The workshop will also provide participants with exposure to the use of generative AI tools, aiming to catalyze collaboration among diverse stakeholders to build future-ready cities. The workshop aims to impart exposure and skills to the participants on the following topics in urban transformation initiatives: i) futures thinking and analysis of future scenarios; ii) co-creation process for engaging diverse stakeholders in collaborative thinking; and iii) generative AI tools to enhance collaborative and creative thinking.
